Quetza

About us

We're pilots. Like you.

The pilot community itself is building Quetza, not some company watching from outside. It was missing, and no one else was going to build it.

Where the name comes from

Derivation chain · Nahuatl

01

Quetzalli

“Precious feather.” The three words that follow are built literally on this root: the bird, the feathered serpent and Quetza itself.

02

Quetzaltōtōtl

The quetzal bird: the feather with wings.

03

Quetzalcóatl

The feathered serpent of wind and sky.

04

Quetza

The community flying today. The chain ends here.

We could've slapped on any generic English word, like a lot of drone projects do. We went looking for a root that's actually from here instead: a Mexican reference to what flying already meant, long before drones existed.

What you're looking at

  1. 01

    Head-on

A feathered serpent looking straight at you. The real reference, no generic tech icon or stylized drone standing in for it.

  2. 02

    The feathers

Quetzalli, precious feather: something valuable, that flies, that deserves to be properly looked after.

  3. 03

    The wind jewel

The ehecailacacozcatl motif of Ehécatl-Quetzalcóatl, lord of the wind. Real heritage, not ornament.

The real problem

Flying a drone in Mexico is a scattered experience, whether you fly an FPV rig you built yourself or a factory stabilised drone. There was no space bringing pilots together and no voice representing them to anyone.

State today

How it feels

What we're building

Scattered

WhatsApp groups that appear and vanish, pilots isolated in loose channels.

United community

Contradictory

Regulation information that changes depending on who you ask.

Reliable information

Alone

If an authority stops you one day, you sort it out on your own.

Common voice

The app is the tool. The goal is for drone flying to be taken seriously.

This is not a promise

Every pilot in the counter answered the survey with their real account. That's how the number grows.

Pilots in the registry

Who's behind it

Founder

Luis Durán

Pilot from the community

Why he started

Because it happened to him: flying without knowing if he was allowed, asking around and getting three different answers.

Whose it is

The trade that needs it, not one single person.

If you fly, this is yours too.
